Surya Bhagavan is the visible God to all people. This is because without Him life would not exist on Earth.
He got the chariot that He uses to travel to bless this world on Magha masa Shukla paksha Saptami. So this is called Ratha Saptami.
On this day Surya Bhagavan is very pleased. Performing snana, dana and puja on this day pleases Him even more! It removes poverty and bestows endless merit. Thus says Skanda Purana.
