Sri Bhakthavatsala Perumal - Thirukannamangai Thiruvarur, Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu, India

This temple is eight kms from Thiru Cherai on the way to Tiruvarur. The Moolavar is Sri Bhaktavatsala Perumal in a standing posture facing east and the Thaayar is Sri Kanna Mangai Nayaki. The legend is when Mahalakshmi appeared from Thiru paal Kadal she became shy upon seeing Lord Sri Vishnu and knowing her mind Lord Sri Vishnu sent a message to her through Vishwaksenar indicating the Muhurtham when he will marry the Goddess.

Thereupon, the marriage took place here and all the Devas came in the form of bees to witness the function. Even now on the northern side of the Thaayar Sannidhi there is a large bee hive, which many speculate has been there for centuries. These bees never hurt any of the devotees and this is the only place, out of the 108 Divya Deshams, where such a sight exists. These bee hives change direction once in six months, Utharayanam and Dhakshinayam. It is also believed that Lord Sri Shiva is protecting this temple at each of the four corners.

There are also idols of Sri Vaikuntanathar, sitting on the back of Lord Sri Garuda, and also an idol of Lord Buddha in the outer Prakaram.

Thiru Mangai Azhwar has sung in praise of this Lord. Just like Sri Rangam this place is surrounded by two rivers: Cauvery on the north and Odampoki on the south. Normally Vishwaksenar has four hands, while in this temple he has two hands.
