This temple is in Thirunangur itself. The Moolavar is Sri Purushothaman in a standing posture facing east and the Thaayar is Sri Purushothama Nayaki. In Tamil Nadu, this is the only place where Lord Sri Vishnu is known by the name Purushothaman. In Ayodhya, Sri Rama is also known by the name Purushothaman and it is believed that Sri Rama came to this place from Ayodhya at the time of Rudra Thandavam. Sage Vyagrapadha once came to this place: he went to the garden to collect flowers for a garland leaving his young son Upamanyu in the temple. The child became hungry and started crying. At the instance of Goddess Sri Purushothama Nayaki, Lord Sri Purushothama obtained milk from Thiru Paal Kadal and gave it to the child. The God also gave darshan and blessings to Sage Sri Vyagrapadha. Thiru Mangaiazhwar has sung in praise of this Lord.
