Chennai: Kanchi Shankaracharya Shankara Vijayendra Saraswathi has called for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Bangladesh in the wake of intense protests there, leading to ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to a statement, special prayers are being held in Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham for peace and normalcy to be restored in Bangaldesh. “Bangladesh has several historic temples including Dhakeshwari Mandir, a shakthi-peeth, and is home to a large number of Hindus,” said the statement from Kanchi Mutt.
The Shankaracharya has appealed for peace and safety of Hindus and for stability in the nation, it said, adding that the 69th acharya of Kanchi Mutt, Jayendra Saraswati Shankaracharya, had visited Dhakeshwari Mandir in Dhaka in 2010.
A gate leading to the temple was named “Shankaracharya gate”, commemorating the visit.
