Princess Irene of Greece - A great devotee of Kanchi Mutt.

Princess Irene was a great devotee of the Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Kanchipuram & used to visit India often only to spend time in the presence of Mahaperiyava in deep meditation.She was helpful in protecting cows in Europe when Europe decided to kill unyielding cows for managing their costs. Then she airlifted 150 cows from there to India by a cargo flight & travelled in the same plane along with the cattle & those cows were sent to various gowsalas where the climate would suit them to survive.

Planning to write a detailed tribute to her as I had personally interacted with her while she was in Kanchi several times. She sent 100s of bags of milkpowder from Greece to india in early 1980s that was sent to several Vedapatasalas for the use of vidyarthis. Those then ailing patasalas got good support for months. She was directed by Kanchi Mahaperiyava to go to Dr.T.M.P.Mahadevan to seek tutelage on Indian philosophical systems. She evinced keen interest in studying Advaita Vedanta. He taught her the essence of the philosophy & she experienced the spirit of it from Kanchi Shankaracharyas.

Princess Irene of Greece and Denmark was laid to rest 19th JAN 2026 afternoon at the windswept royal cemetery at Tatoi. Click here to view more
