This temple is situated a few kms south of Paapanasam town. This deity (Devi) is supposed to protect the babies in the womb of pregnant women and assure a safe delivery. Since this Sri Devi is protecting the child in the womb she is referred to, in Sanskrit, as Sri Garbarakshaka Ambal and in, as Tamil Sri Thirukarkavur Amman. Generally, ladies in Tamil Nadu, especially in Tanjore District, when pregnant, visit this temple and pray for safe delivery and offer oil as kanikkai.
