Marudanallur is a village about 5km from Kumbakonam on the road to Tiruvarur. This place has become famous due to the establishment of the Mutt by Sri Sadguru swamigal who also propagated Nama Sankethanam as the easiest way to attain Moksha in Kaliyuga. All three of them, Sri Bodendra Swamigal, Sri Sridhara Aiyaval and Sri Sadguru Swamigal have showed us the way to God through Sri Nama Sankethanam. Sri Sadguru Swamigal's original name was Sri Venkataramana Desikar.

It is believed that when Sri Sadguru swamigal was performing pradakshinam in Varadharaja puram temple in Govindapuram, he happened to discover a rare book titled "Nama Koumudi'' which turned out to be a source of information to chant the name of Sri Rama Nama. He considered Sri Bodendra swamigal as his Sri Manasika Guru. He also founded the Jeeva Samadhi of Sri Bodendra Swamigal and built the present Brindavan at Govindapuram. At his request King Sri Sarbhoji built a small temple at this place.
