Inside this temple 108 Sri Shiva Lingams are installed in one big hall. Paapanasam is on the southern bank of river Cauvery between Tanjore and Kumbakonam Trunk Road. The main deity is Lord Sri Shiva. Outside the southern compound wall of this temple there is another Sri Shiva lingam installed known as Sri Sethu Lingam, which corresponds to the Sri Rama Lingam of Rameshwaram.
