Veeravadi is a village situated approximately three kilometers away from Poonthottam in Tiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu. The village consists of around 50 – 60 families or so. It was said that the name Veeravadi came into being for a specific reason. When the village was surrounded with flood at least more than a century ago, villagers were screaming for God Veera to come and help them. The villagers were calling God “Veera Thanniaya Kudi” (Veera, come and drink the flooded water) the water so that the village could be saved. As the village was dried out after this, it was named Veeravadi.
