Kaliyakudi

Kaliyakudi is an agrarian village in Nanilam Thaluk, Thiruvarur District - 16 kms from the famous Saneeshwaran Temple in Thirunallar, Karaikkal. Kaliyakudi Iraipani Trust is a Charitable Trust promoted for the welfare of the people of Kaliyakudi including especially for repair, renovation and upkeep of the temples in the village and its neighbouring region.

Kaleeshwarar Temple, Kaliyakudi.

The Kaleeswarar Temple in Kaliyakudi village is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is several centuries old. Legend has it that to divest herself of Brammahathi Dosham (after destroying the asuras Ambahasuran at the nearby Ambakarathur and Amban at Ambal), Goddess Kali offered her prayers to Lord Shiva at Kaliyakudi. The form of Kali worshipping Lord Shiva is depicted in the southern wall. Another special feature of the temple is the Lord Saneeswaran Sannidhi - where the deity faces North, so called as Kubhera Maha Mangala Saneeshwarar.

The massive Shiva Lingam, the Beautiful Kamalaambal, the Rare sannidhi of Kali worshipping Shiva, the Majestic Dakshinamurthy and the North facing Saneeswaran, provide a sense of peace and calm on every visit. In fact, the Kanchi Paramacharya Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal, who was enchanted by the temple upon his visit, had pointed out that temple was mentioned in the Saraswathi Mahal Library at Tanjore.

Read a profile of the temple that appeared in Sri Agasthia Vijayam magazine (April 2008).

Apart from this Shivan Temple in East of the Agraharam, Lord Vishnu Temple is located on West End of Agraharam which is the starting point of the Agraharam.

The Vishnu Temple has Bhoomi Neela Samedha Varadharaja Swami as main deity, Lakshmi Narayana Swamy, Nardhana Ganapathy, Varadhanjaneyar and Garudaazhvar.

Both the Shivan and Vishnu Temple has its own Temple Ponds. The Shivan Temple Pond is said to have cured NALAN's skin problem.

Apart from this we have a beautiful Mariyamman Temple, Selliamman Temple and an Ayyanar Temple as Grama Devadhais.

Donations to the temples can be made via cheque / demand draft in favour of “Kaliyakudi Iraipani Trust” and mailed to:
