The 70th Sankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal visited the Mylapore Kapaleeshwarar Temple and offered diamond studded gold nose-ring to Goddess Karpagambal. With thousands of devotees witnessing this historic event inside the temple, the Sankaracharya in his benedictory address recalled the Adi Sankara tradition of ornamental offerings to Goddesses with a reference from Adi Sankara’s Trirupurasundari Manasa Poooja Stotram & Lalitha Sahasranamam . Early this year, the thandaga prathishta (ear ornament) for Akhilandeswari at Thiruvanai Koil was offered by Sri Sankara Vijayendra Swarasathi Swamigal and now the nose-stud to Karpagambal with a special mention on how the nose is an important organ that improves concentration while performing yoga and other rituals. He also recalled another coincidence with the visit to Kapaleeshwara Temple made by Mahagswmaigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam during the same Visvavasu Year on February 19, 1966. The 68th Sankaracharya Swamigal inaugurated - "Deiveeka Peravai”, a Saiva Spiritual Services event organised by the Dharmapuram Adheenam. The Sankaracharya Swamigal was received with traditional honours by the Joint Commissioner & EO P.K.Kavenitha along with trustees of the temple.
