Sri Rahu Bhagawan Thiru Koil - Sri Shenbakarnyeswarar Thiru Nageeswaram, Kumbakonam, Tanjore Distri

This place is known as Thirunageshwaram situated at a distance ofseven km from Kumbakonam. This is a very big Sri Shiva Temple and the god is known as Sri Shenbakarnyeswarar or as Sri Naganatha Swami and the goddess is Sri Girikujambika.

In the ceiling of the Sri Amman Sannidhi there is a small hole and on pournami night Moon's rays fall on the head of the goddess and hence known as "Pirai Anium Amman"

The Rahu Shrine is outside the main temple on the southern side with his two consorts. Here Rahu is Mangala Karaka, who gives all auspicious things to devotees. The idol is quite big. A special feature of this idol is, the stone with which this idol is made is such that when milk is poured on the head of Sri Rahu for abhisheka the colour becomes blue. The milk again becomes white when it is offered as prasadham to the devotees. Devotees perform abhisheka in this temple on Fridays' and Tuesdays' during Rahu Kalam i.e. between 10.30 a.m to 12.00 noon and 3.00 to 4.30 p.m respectively.

There is also a temple in the same compound dedicated to Sri Durga, Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswathi.
