Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana Yagyam

Thirukkoodalur is one of the 108 Holy Shrines of Vaishnavites (Divya Desam). This village is at a distance of 22 kilo meters from Kumbakonam on Thiruvaiyaru bus route. According to the legend, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Varaha here to save Bhuma Devi. His appellation hers is

Jagathrakshaga Perumal (Vaiyam kaththa Perumal). He graced sage Naradha, King Ambarisha

and Thirumangai Azwar with His holy vision in this place.

Vishnu Sahasranama Parayana yagya Committee organizes Vishnu Sahasranamam chanting in the Tamil month of Margazhi every year. Devotees from Chennai, Trichy and Kumbakonam assemble here in large numbers to recite Vishnu Sahasranamam. Special abishekams are performed and the deities are decorated beautifully after the abishekam. This year it was held on fourth Jan in a grand manner.

In addition to this Thirukoodalur temple kaingarya committee organized a competition to the

children of the village and prizes were distributed. Each child who participated in the competition got some prize and sweets were distributed to children.
